On Campus

The UTD campus is my ideal environment. It is not too big and extremely walkable, perfect for someone who loves finding friends to spend time with and hates being cooped up at home. I’ll attend university events, drop into interesting club meetings, sit in on my friends’ classes, and wherever else I can find. Every new person I meet introduces me to new opportunities, and I’ll accept every new challenge I’m offered!

Being one of the 7 students on the Honors Council means that I get to be personally involved with much of the Honors community, from the Dean and admin, all the way to the freshmen and transfer students.

One of my favorite places on campus is the UTD Makerspace. The building is full of 3D printers, sewing machines, power tools, and everything one could dream. Many STEM clubs meet in that space, and I myself am a part of Comet Robotics. Recently, I spent 5 weeks and many training courses to earn the right to use their Fabrication shop! The Fab Shop is a magical place with power tools for woodworking and metalwork, and I’ve used my skills to build a coffee table for my apartment, with many future projects to come!

I love to cook and bake. I get to experience a world of adventure from the comfort of my own kitchen. Every time I make something new, it’s like I’m exploring a fun project, but I get to eat yummy food when I’m done! I believe that sharing food creates the closest bonds, so I share whatever I can with my friends. When people show up at my house, they know they will be fed.

From large batches of soup to questionably successful pastries, I always feel glad when my friends happily devour my cooking. Holidays are prime time for dinner parties, and weekly hot chocolate nights during the cold winter months bring everyone together to relax, chat, and feel warm and loved.

Gardening

Growing up, I never thought I had a very nurturing personality. But I fell in love with gardening. Now, I cannot live without a little greenery brightening my room, and both the yard in my childhood home and my current apartment balcony are filled with botany experiments. It’s so rewarding to watch my little guys thrive and feel the joy and pride as my little plant grows a new set of leaves.

Gathering crops is one of the most satisfying accomplishments I’ve felt, and nothing beats seeing the results of my labor, whether it be a sun-ripened strawberry, a blooming lily, or simply the row of little plants on my windowsill looking green and happy.
